AUSTON MATTHEWS MAKES HUGE INVESTMENT IN SWEDISH HIGH TECH HOCKEY COMPANY

Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Auston Matthews has always turned heads with his sensational play on the ice, but the now 23-year-old has made some intriguing plays off the ice as well. Matthews has not only become an inspired fashionista - as is evidenced by his past fashion modeling - but now, he can also add "investor" to his resumè, as the Leafs' sniper has laid down a sizable investment into Swedish high tech hockey company Marsblade.

Matthews, along with former NHLers Nicklas Kronwall and Henrik Zetterberg have come together during a 30 million SEK financing round to help propel Marsblade forward by meeting the astounding market demand for the company's rollerblade, which uses their patented Flow Motion Technology.

"I am really excited to be a part of Marsblade," said Matthews in an official statement addressing his new affiliation with the 2011 start-up. "The product itself and the people involved in the company made it a great fit. Marsblading has become a part of how I keep in shape and work on my game when I am not on the ice."

The company was founded by former professional hockey player Per Mårs, who wanted to create a training tool for himself to utilize during the off-season to hone his skills away from the ice surface. Less than a decade later, his products are being used by a large contingent of hockey and fitness enthusiasts, including hundreds of pro hockey players from all over the world.

The addition of Matthews, Kronwall and Zetterberg to the investment team speaks to the quality of the products that Marsblade has to offer. Having players like Matthews, along with Stanley Cup Champions Zetterberg and Kronwall involved in the company will certainly draw more attention to the brand, which bodes well for the company and its various stakeholders.
