MARCHAND LECTURES CAPS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF FOLLOWING THE RULES AFTER $100K FINE ISSUED BY NHL

Far be it for Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand to lecture anyone on proper etiquette, but when it comes to the NHL's COVID-19 protocols, apparently Marchand is an advocate of following the rules.

On Thursday, Marchand had a thing or two to say to the Washington Capitals regarding Wednesday's $100,000 fine, following four Capitals players breaking the NHL's COVID-19 safety protocols.

"There's rules in place for a reason - and they're not that hard to follow ... we all know the consequence of breaking the rules," said Marchand.

I mean, ignoring the fact that this is a bit of a hypocritical comment coming from Marchand - who has essentially built a career off of breaking the rules - Marchand really does have a point here.

If the Caps and possibly other teams begin to bend or break these COVID-19 protocols, resulting in a slew of positive tests, it could ultimately lead to the already shortened NHL season effectively being cancelled - and that is not a fun scenario for anyone to think about.

Regardless of what the Caps think of the comments, Marchy does have a point.. maybe for the first time in his career. It will be interesting to see how this one develops and whether or not Marchand's comments will spark some animosity between the two clubs, who now play in the same East Division.
