CANADIENS FORWARD PLANNING TO JOIN FINNISH TEAM ON LOAN

According to a report from Finnish media outlet, Satakunnan Kansa, Habs forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi will be joining his hometown team, Porin Assat on loan until the beginning of 2020-21 NHL training camps. Kotkaniemi will be the fifth Canadiens player to be loaned to Europe joining Jesse Ylonen (Pelicans-Liiga), Hayden Verbeek (HC Banska Bystrica-Czech league), Lukas Vejdemo (Sodertalje SK-HockeyAllsvenskan), and Otto Leskinen (KalPa-Liiga).



Kotkaniemi, 20, was drafted in the first round, third overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2018 NHL entry draft. In 115 regular season games, he has 42 points (17 G, 25 A), 49 penalty minutes, and is a -10. In 10 career playoff games, he's put up 4 points (4 G), 23 penalty minutes, and is a +4.



Internationally, Kotkaniemi has represented Finland on multiple occasions, most recently tournament wise he played at the 2018 IIHF World U18 Championships. In 7 games he had 9 points (3 G, 6 A), 37 penalty minutes, and was a +9 as Finland won the gold medal.
