CANUCKS SIGN DEFENCEMAN TRAVIS HAMONIC FOLLOWING PTO
After signing a PTO with the club earlier this month, Travis Hamonic and the Vancouver Canucks have agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth $1.25 million.
Hamonic, 30, was drafted in the second round, 53rd overall by the New York Islanders in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He's spent ten seasons in the NHL, seven with the Islanders, and three with the Calgary Flames.
In 637 regular season games, Hamonic has put up 188 points (37 G, 151 A), 591 penalty minutes, and is a +2. In 22 career playoff games, he's tallied 4 points (1 G, 3 A), 33 penalty minutes, and is a -10.
Internationally, Hamonic has represented Canada on two occasions, most recently at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships. In 6 games, he had 3 points (1 G, 2 A), 0 penalty minutes, and was a +9 as Canada finished second after losing to the United States in the Gold Medal Game.
Hamonic will likely slot in on the second pairing for the Canucks, and is joining a D-core looking to prove many people wrong. Alex Edler, Nate Schmidt, Quinn Hughes, Tyler Myers, Olli Juolevi, and Hamonic will make up the Canucks' top-six when they take on the Edmonton Oilers Wednesday night at 10pm ET.
