The Arizona Coyotes announced Monday morning that franchise icon Shane Doan is back with the organization, serving as the club's Chief Hockey Development Officer.

Doan, 44, will report directly to Coyotes president and CEO Xavier Gutierrez and will serve as a strategic advisor to owner, chairman & governor Alex Meruelo and general manager Bill Armstrong. He will support the club's business and hockey operations departments and advise on major club decisions and initiatives.

«We are very excited to welcome Shane Doan back to the Coyotes organization,» said Meruelo. «No one has done more for the Coyotes or for the game of hockey in Arizona than Shane. We look forward to working with him for many years to come.»

«Shane Doan is a Coyotes legend and a Valley icon,» said Gutierrez. «For the past 25 years, Shane has been an incredible ambassador for our franchise and has represented the Coyotes with dignity and class. He is beloved by our fan base and we are thrilled to have him back with us where he belongs.»

Doan spent his entire 21-season career with the Coyotes franchise. His rookie year came when the team was still located in Winnipeg, but they moved to Arizona the following season. He was a fan favorite throughout his lengthy career in the desert. Doan, who was the seventh overall pick of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft, finished his career with 402 goals and 972 points in 1540 games played.
