ELIAS PETTERSSON MAKES MAJOR OFF-ICE DECISION DURING CONTRACT YEAR

Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson is off to a slow start to the 2020-21 season, recording only 2 points (1 G, 1 A) in 7 games, with his first goal coming on Saturday night's loss to the Montreal Canadiens.

Pettersson is in the final year of his entry-level contract, and will be a restricted free agent in six months.

According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, Pettersson has decided to switch agents and will now be represented by Pat Brisson and JP Barry at CAA.

Both Brisson and Barry represent several other Vancouver Canucks. It is bound to be an interesting off-season for Pat Brisson, as not only will he have to negotiate a contract for Elias Pettersson, but he'll also be looking for a new deal for star defenceman Quinn Hughes.

Pettersson, 22, was drafted in the first round, 5th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. In 146 regular season games, he's tallied 134 points (56 G, 78 A), 34 penalty minutes, and is a +18. In 17 career playoff games, he's put up 18 points (7 G, 11 A), 2 penalty minutes, and is a +2.

Internationally, Pettersson has represented Sweden on several occasions, most recently at the 2019 IIHF World Hockey Championships. In 8 games, he had 10 points (3 G, 7 A), 2 penalty minutes, and was a +/-0 as Sweden finished fifth after losing to Finland in the quarterfinals.
