FORMER LEAFS 1ST ROUNDER SIGNS A DEAL WITH THE ARIZONA COYOTES

The Arizona Coyotes have put pen to paper with free agent signee Frederik Gauthier, coming to terms on a one-year, two-way deal that will keep him in the desert through the 2020-21 season.

Gauthier, 25, appeared in 61 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2019-20, tallying 7 goals, setting a single-season high for the lumbering forward, and amassing a total of 12 points over that span.

In 168 career NHL games with the Leafs, Gauthier has registered a total of 13 goals and 18 assists for 31 points, all with the club that drafted him in the first round in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft (21st overall).

The Leafs had originally let Gauthier walk in free agency earlier this offseason after recognizing that his defensive efficiencies were not as valuable as his lack of offensive output was detrimental, leaving the 6'5", 239lb forward to seek out a new NHL club.

Due to a Coyotes internal policy, the terms of the one-year deal have not yet been announced.
