GOLDEN KNIGHTS CHOOSE THEIR FIRST CAPTAIN IN FRANCHISE HISTORY
After entering the National Hockey League nearly four years ago, the Vegas Golden Knights have named their first captain in franchise history. That honour will go to star forward Mark Stone.
"Pete (DeBoer) called me in to his office. Didn't really think much of it, just thought maybe he was going to ask about the camp. Asked me if I was up for the opportunity to be the captain of this team. This is an organization I've always wanted to be a part of so to be able to be the first captain of this franchise it's very honoring, very humbling and I'm excited to see where this team goes." Stone said.
Stone, 28, was drafted in the 6th round, 178th overall by the Ottawa Senators in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He's spent parts of eight seasons in the NHL with Ottawa and Vegas.
In 449 regular season games, Stone has put up 385 points (149 G, 236 A), 147 penalty minutes, and is a +74. In 54 career playoff games, he's tallied 42 points (18 G, 24 A), 30 penalty minutes, and is a +7.
Internationally, Stone has represented Canada on multiple occasions, most recently at the 2019 IIHF World Hockey Championships where he was named an alternate captain. In 10 games, he had 14 points (8 G, 6 A), 0 penalty minutes and was a +10 as Canada took home silver after losing to Finland in the Gold Medal Game.
