GRANLUND LINKED TO TWO EASTERN CONFERENCE TEAMS

Mikael Granlund was one of the top free agent forwards available at the beginning of the offseason, and he is somehow still available. It is certainly surprising that a player of his caliber seemed to be generating little to no interest. Now, he has been linked to two Eastern Conference teams that are looking for added forward depth.

One team is the Boston Bruins. The Bruins would be a great fit, and he would be reunited with former Minnesota Wild teammate Charlie Coyle. Although, Boston does not have much cap space left, so some separate moves would have to be made along with Granlund taking a bit of a paycut.

The other team linked to the 28-year-old is the Columbus Blue Jackets. If Granlund signed with the Blue Jackets, he would be reunited with another former Wild teammate in Mikko Koivu. The Finnish forward could help bolster the forward depth in Columbus, especially after the acquisition of Max Domi.

Granlund had 30 points (17 goals, 13 assists) in 63 games for Nashville last season. He just has not found his touch in the Predators' system like he did with the Minnesota Wild. In his NHL career he has played in 540 games, recording 352 points (111 goals, 241 assists) while splitting time in Minnesota and Nashville. A change of scenery would help the forward regain his form and make him one of the steals of the offseason.
