HENRIK LUNDQVIST MAKES IT CLEAR HE WILL BE RETURNING TO THE RANGERS ORGANIZATION

For the first time in his NHL career, 38-year-old goaltender Henrik Lundqvist will be playing for a team other than the New York Rangers this upcoming season. While he is concentrating on playing the best he can for the Washington Capitals, Lundqvist was adamant in an interview in his home country of Sweden that he's not done with the Rangers.

"This is a chapter, when I go and test this," Lundqvist told the Gotesburg-Poten about playing for the Caps. "But I'll be a part of the Rangers for the rest of my life. In one way or another. Both I and they have been clear about that. That's how it will be."

Asked what type of role he will be in once he returns to New York, Lundqvist said it has yet to be decided.

"I do not know if the role will be small or if there will be something more," he said. "It is further ahead. It is not here and now - but I feel that I will somehow be connected to the Rangers forever after so many years and all the people I got to know in the club, from the owners and down."

After 15 seasons with the Rangers, Lundqvist was bought out of the remaining year of his contract over the summer. He then signed on as a free agent with Washington for one year. Whether he will play after the 2020-21 season remains to be seen.
