ISLANDERS USING INTERESTING TECHNIQUE TO PREVENT LOSING ENTIRE POSITIONAL GROUPS

The New York Islanders will kick off their regular season Thursday night versus the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. There will not be any fans in attendance due to COVID-19, and teams are also trying new tactics to protect their players.

Lou Lamiorello confirmed Wednesday that the team's goalies, Semyon Varlamov and Ilya Sorokin, will be kept apart in the dressing room in hopes of protecting against COVID-19 related problems that could hurt an entire position group.

The Islanders will also be doing this with their forward and defensive cores for the same reason. They are hoping that it will prevent an entire position group from all getting COVID-19 if it does indeed become a problem.

According to Lamoriello, other teams are also using this strategy in hopes of keeping their team as close to 100% as possible.
