JACK CAMPBELL CHOKES BACK TEARS WHILE DISCUSSING SETTING A NEW LEAFS FRANCHISE RECORD

Apr 8, 2021 à 8h21      TIM TUCKER
Jack Campbell's road to success in the NHL hasn't been an easy one. At 29-years-old, he came into this season having played just 64 games in the NHL while spending the rest of his time in the AHL and ECHL. After a 3-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens last night, Campbell set a new franchise record for the Toronto Maple Leafs, going 10-0-0 in his first 10 games of the season, and he appears to have the starting position with the team locked-up. Following the game, Campbell choked back tears when asked what this means to him.

"It's pretty awesome. I'm lost for words right now,» Campbell replied. «It's been a long journey and just to have their support, every single guy, it's crazy. It's a dream come true, something I worked very hard for," said Campbell.

"There's not a day I don't thank the lord for putting me here in Toronto with these amazing guys. And I don't want to forget my L.A. teammates and coaches there because they got the ball rolling for me in the NHL and without them I wouldn't be here."

Not only has Campbell won his first 10 starts this season, he has a 1.58 goals against average and a save percentage of .944 while doing it. Excellent stats for any goaltender. With usual Leafs starter Frederik Andersen set to become a free agent at the end of this season, you have to wonder if Toronto will just let him walk away.

Campbell's teammates have talked extensively about how great of a guy he is and it's an awesome thing to see him finally find success after being drafted 11th overall in 2010.
