JAKE ARRIETA LEAVES GAME WITH LEG INJURY

Jake Arrieta just left the Phillies-Mets game in the top of the sixth. The Philadelphia starter appeared to hurt his right leg, and it is possibly a hamstring injury. That is what he appeared to grab after a wild pitch. He struggled to walk off of the field, and it seemed it was difficult for him to put weight on it. While it is all speculation right now, it is still an injury, and no injury should be taken lightly, especially in this shortened season. The Phillies are currently in line to get the eight seed in the National League, but they have teams hot on their trail. Losing a pitcher like Arrieta for even one start could be the difference between missing and making the playoffs.

While Arrieta has not been the best this season, or been near what Phillies fans expected him to be when they signed him, he will still be missed in any games he misses, assuming he misses games. Arrieta is 3-4 in eight games this season. He has 28 strikeouts in 39 innings, and a 5.54 ERA. He can still bring experience to the team though. He is a former Cy Young Award winner and has a World Series ring from his time with the Cubs. In 2015 when he won his Cy Young award, Arrieta went 22-6 in 33 games with 1.77 ERA. He also finished sixth in MVP voting that year. That is the player that the Phillies are hoping for, but right now they are just hoping he does not have a serious injury.
