LA KINGS SUSPEND ACTOR BEHIND BAILEY MASCOT AMID SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS

The person behind the LA Kings Bailey mascot has been suspended from his position amid allegations of sexual harassment from a former member of the team's Ice Crew. A lawsuit has been launched by a women, referred to in court documents as Jane Doe, claiming actor Tim Smith was "constantly cracking lewd jokes, making inappropriate sexual comments and would leer at her "breasts and buttocks" during her time with the team.

“The L.A. Kings take these allegations very seriously and, as an organization, we believe that everyone has the right to work in an environment free from any form of harassment or discrimination,” the team said in a statement that did not identify Smith by name. “We will conduct a thorough investigation into this matter. The employee in question has been suspended, effective immediately, pending the conclusion of the investigation.”

According to the lawsuit, Smith was also in charge of hiring and firing for the Ice Crew besides his duties as a mascot. The woman claims to have made her feelings on inappropriate behaviour known to Smith, who would retaliate by firing her from the Ice Crew. The lawsuit also claims that an official with the team begged Doe to come back, promising to shield her from Smith, thereby acknowledging his inappropriate conduct. She returned, but states Smith continued with the behaviour, including an incident where she alleges Smith "put his crotch in her face in the mascot locker room while making lewd comments and thrusting his hips." Doe would then quit and never return.

The suit is asking for $1 million in damages. This isn't the first time Smith has had these types of allegations made against him in his role as Bailey. In 2017, he was sued for sexual misconduct stemming from a separate incident, in which he allegedly groped a man’s buttocks in a Staples Center elevator. The team disputed that claim at the time, saying an internal investigation found the allegations to be without merit. The suit was reportedly later settled between the parties.
