LEAFS PLACE VETERAN FORWARD ON WAIVERS

The waiver wire was fairly active on Sunday as it included five players, including veteran forward Jason Spezza of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Other players placed on waivers were: Aaron Dell (TOR), Brett Ritchie (CAL), Alex Biega (DET), and Joel Kellman (SJS).

It appears that if he isn't claimed, Jason Spezza will be headed to the Maple Leafs Taxi Squad, but with Toronto already losing forward Nicholas Robertson to a knee injury, it's certainly a puzzling move.

Spezza has remained adamant about finishing his career in Toronto ever since signing with the Maple Leafs as an unrestricted free agent in July 2019.

Spezza was drafted in the first round, second overall by the Ottawa Senators in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He's spent parts of 18 seasons in the NHL playing for Ottawa, Dallas, and Toronto. In 1,126 regular season games, he's tallied 941 points (341 G, 600 A), 574 penalty minutes, and is a +4. In 85 career playoff games, Spezza has recorded 70 points (25 G, 45 A), 37 penalty minutes, and is a -3.
