LEAFS SHORE UP GOALTENDING DEPTH SIGNING FORMER SHARK

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that they have signed goaltender Aaron Dell to a one-year contract worth $800,000.

Dell, 31, has spent the past four seasons as the San Jose Sharks backup, which were his first four as an NHLer. In 33 games this past season, Dell posted a 3.01 goals against average (GAA) along with a .907 save percentage (SV%) and a 12-15-3 record. He has played in 107 career NHL games, posting a combined 2.75 GAA and a .908 SV%.

This appears to be a depth signing for the Leafs, who currently have Frederik Andersen and Jack Campbell under contract for next season. While Dell will more than likely be in the AHL to start next season, it is a nice luxury for the Leafs to have in case either of the two goalies listed above were to go down with an injury next season. It remains to be seen how it will all pan out, but early on it is hard not to be impressed with the job general manager Kyle Dubas has done this offseason.
