MINNESOTA WILD SIGN MARCUS FOLIGNO TO MULTI-YEAR EXTENSION

The Minnesota Wild announced on Tuesday afternoon that they've agreed to terms with forward Marcus Foligno to a three-year contract extension worth $9.3 million ($3.1 million AAV). The contract will kick in for the 2021-22 season, as Foligno is currently in the last year of a four-year deal that will see him make $2.875 million.

Foligno, 29, was drafted in the fourth round, 104th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He's spent parts of nine seasons in the NHL with Buffalo and Minnesota. In 565 regular season games, he's tallied 183 points (75 G, 108 A), 491 penalty minutes, and is a -8. In 9 career playoff games, he has 2 points (1 G, 1 A), 21 penalty minutes, and is a -4.

Prior to turning pro, Foligno spent four years in the Ontario Hockey League with the Sudbury Wolves, captaining them in his final season. In 245 regular season games, he had 139 points (54 G, 85 A), 382 penalty minutes, and was a -47. In 18 career playoff games, he put up 9 points (4 G, 5 A), 39 penalty minutes, and was a -9.

Internationally, Foligno has represented Canada once in his career which came at the 2011 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships. In 7 games, he recorded 4 points (2 G, 2 A), 2 penalty minutes, and was a +2 as Canada took home silver following a loss to Russia in the Gold Medal Game.
