MUZZIN RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL, SIDELINED FOR REMAINDER OF SERIES

Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Muzzin has been released from hospital on Wednesday following a scary scene during Tuesday afternoon's contest against the Columbus Blue Jackets, when Muzzin was sent off balance by a cross check from behind by Columbus forward Pierre-Luc Dubois, colliding with the leg of Oliver Bjorkstrand, causing Muzzin's neck to twist awkwardly.

Following the hit, Muzzin was conscious and communicating with trainers and medical personnel, with control of his extremities. As with any neck injury, for precautionary reasons, Muzzin was carted off on a stretcher and taken to hospital to be checked over.

Obviously, the Leafs are thrilled that the 31-year-old is up and moving and in good spirits, however the bad news is that Muzzin has been rendered unfit to compete in the remainder of his team's qualifying round series against the Blue Jackets.

This is a tough loss for the Leafs, as Muzzin plays big minutes in meaningful situations for the Buds. Muzzin is a stabilizing force on the back end, plays a physical two-way game and kills penalties.

It does, however, create an opportunity for a player such as Martin Marincin or Rasmus Sandin to step in and see some ice time in the series while Muzzin recovers.

Best wishes to Jake for a full recovery and a prompt return to action should the Leafs sneak past the Jackets and advance to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
