NHL ANNOUNCES ZERO COVID-19 CASES FOR A SEVENTH STRAIGHT WEEK

Today, the NHL announced their weekly COVID-19 testing results. For a seventh straight week, the league is reporting zero positive cases within the bubble.

Between the dates of September 6th and September 12th, the league administered 1,357 tests to all 52 members of the remaining four teams including coaches, players, and other staff. The NHL will continue their weekly updates every Monday until the end of the postseason.

This is fantastic news for the NHL. As many as 24 teams entered the two bubbles back at the end of July, made it through exhibition games, the qualifying round, first round, second round and are nearly done the Conference Finals, and yet we haven't had one positive case. For the league, the fans, teams, this is great news, and with plans for next season likely in the works, it makes people wonder if they go with a bubble format. Not necessarily for a whole season, but maybe from December to end of February for example. COVID-19 will likely become worse as the winter goes on, so to mitigate the risk to players, and staff, maybe a bubble for a third, or half the season could be considered.

We are two to three weeks away from the Stanley Cup being handed out, which by the way, arrived in the Edmonton bubble last week.

If the NHL manages to get through the next couple weeks without a positive case of COVID-19, then we all can sit here and say these playoffs were an absolute success. But we will have to wait and see what happens. Next update from the NHL should come next Monday (September 21st).

Four teams remain in the race for the 2020 Stanley Cup. Dallas leads Vegas three games to one in the West Final, while Tampa leads the Islanders three games to one in the East Final.
