NHL LEGEND BELIEVES THAT OVECHKIN CAN BREAK GRETZKY'S GOALS RECORD

Alexander Ovechkin currently sits eighth in NHL history in goals with 706, but many people believe that he has a shot to break Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goals record (894), including NHL legend Jaromir Jagr.

"Earlier I thought Ovechkin doesn't have any chances to break Gretzky's goal record," Jagr said Monday in Moscow, where he is attending the 70th anniversary celebration of Avangard Omsk, the Kontinental Hockey League team he played for from 2008-11. "It was six years ago. But Alex has changed and became a better and more effective hockey player than he was in his youth. I think he works harder now. He'll be able to [break Gretzky's record] if he can stay healthy and keep working as hard as now."

Last season, Ovechkin tallied 48 goals in just 68 games and was tied for the league lead in goals with Boston Bruins forward David Pastrnak. The Great Eight hit the benchmark of 700 goals on February 22, when he scored against the New Jersey Devils.

This just shows the kind of praise that Alexander Ovechkin gets around the league both by his peers and other legends that have played the game. Although it might be tough for Ovechkin to break the record, it is definitely not impossible. He would have to score at the same pace that he has over his career (0.61 goals per game) for another 344 games to break the record.
