NHL MAKES DECISION ON SUSPENSION OF FORMER COYOTES GENERAL MANAGER JOHN CHAYKA

Prior to Arizona Coyotes general manager John Chayka announcing he was leaving the organization this past August, he was under investigation by the NHL over recruiting violations.

The investigation came as a result of allegations that the Coyotes were conducting physical testing on draft eligible Canadian Hockey League players. Testing players prior to the NHL combine is against league rules. According to TSN's Darren Dreger, multiple teams in the CHL reported that the Coyotes had reached out to some of their players prior to the combine. As a result, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the NHL has suspended Chayka through December 31, 2021. This will mean that Chayka is unable to be hired by an NHL team prior to that date.

Friedman said that while the NHL has issued a ruling on the situation, he has yet to see the full document and is unaware of specifics. Regardless, this is a huge scandal and may have played a role in why Chayka abruptly chose to step down from his role in the Coyotes organization. Expect to hear more about this story in the upcoming days.
