NHL PLAYERS SET TO GET PAID FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MONTHS

For the first time in a few months, NHL players are going to get paid a portion of their salary. That's according to Frank Seravalli of TSN.

"NHL players will be paid next week for the first time since April," said Seravalli. "All players who have a contract for 2020-21 season - and were frozen on roster at the pause - will be paid 8.1% of their '21 salary by Oct. 31."

Seravalli also pointed out the difficultly that comes with this payment for owners of hockey teams.

"Goes without saying, but this also means that owners are writing these cheques without meaningful revenue incoming since mid-March. Not a pretty cash flow situation for the bulk of NHL franchises."

NHL teams are big business, but with empty seats since March and no promise of filled arenas any time soon, it's not hard to imagine that finances are getting tight for some clubs. Those that are well-established (think Toronto, Ottawa, New York Rangers ,etc.) shouldn't have too much of an issue, although it's a guarantee they are still getting a bit nervous. Others will have a very tough time until they can start selling tickets again.

As for who has the top base-salaries for the 2020-21 season, PuckPedia has a great list, which you can see below.
