NHL PROVIDES UPDATE ON NUMBER OF POSITIVE COVID CASES SINCE DECEMBER 30TH

According to The Athletic's Michael Russo, the NHL has announced that 27 players have been confirmed with positive COVID-19 tests.

These 27 players are reportedly spread out between nine different teams. While that number seems very high, it is being tracked since December 30, and also includes the 17 players on the Dallas Stars who tested positive in recent days. It is being reported that the majority of the Stars players are asymptomatic.

The NHL has given out 12,000 tests since December 30, so seeing just 27 positive tests is a fairly successful rate to this point. Unfortunately, they will likely not be the last throughout the season, however the NFL, MLB, and NBA have all been able to manage so far, even while having to deal with positive tests of their own.

This is the risk leagues run without setting up a bubble like both the NHL and NBA did for their playoffs, but given the players reviews of their time in the bubble, they would all likely prefer the set up the way it is now.
