NATHAN MACKINNON HAS VERY HIGH PRAISE FOR HABS PHILLIP DANAULT

While Montreal Canadiens fans know just how valuable of a player Phillip Danault is, he is quite underrated throughout the hockey community as a whole, mainly due to the fact he doesn't put up the offensive numbers of the NHL's elite forwards.

Despite his offensive numbers not suggesting he is a high end NHL forward however, he truly is developing into one of the league's best two-way centers, and though some fans have yet to take notice, his peers are. In fact, when asked who is a pain to play against, superstar forward Nathan MacKinnon quickly mentioned the 27-year-old.

«Danault», the Colorado Avalanche forward said. «Such a good centreman. It's hard to get space on him. I don't know if he's in Selke talks but he should be, hopefully he wins one. Good versus everyone, not just me.»

This has to be great for Canadiens fans to hear, as many have grown frustrated with how little recognition Danault seems to get. Many expected him to be named as a Selke Trophy finalist after last season where he posted 13 goals and 47 points and a plus/minus ranking of plus 18 in 71 contests. Instead, however, it was revealed he finished sixth in voting for the award.

Perhaps MacKinnon speaking up is what will finally get Danault the credit he deserves as one of the game's elite two-way players. The Quebec native has played in three games so far this season, posting two assists. In 342 career games, he has registered 177 points, though his offence has been trending upward in recent seasons. He should continue to be a big part of the Habs for many years to come.
