NEW YORK RANGERS RE-SIGN RFA DEFENSEMAN TONY DEANGELO

The New York Rangers and restricted free agent defenseman Tony DeAngelo have agreed to a 2 year $9.6 million ($4.8 million AAV) contract extension. He is coming off a one year deal with an AAV of $925k.

The 24-year-old posted a career year where he tallied 15 goals and 38 assists for 53 points in 68 games. It seems that the young d-man will be quarterbacking the Rangers defenseman for at least the next two years, and he could slide over to the left side in order to replace Marc Staal.

The Rangers organization has kept themselves busy, as DeAngelo’s contract was announced just hours after they also agreed to a contract with RFA goaltender Alexandar Georgiev.

The roster continues to look even better as the off-season has gone on, as they added Alexis Lafreniere to a very good offensive core that already includes Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, and Kaapo Kakko. The d-core isn't too shabby either, as Adam Fox and Jacob Trouba also add in some firepower on the backend.

DeAngelo expressed his satisfaction with the new deal in a tweet Thursday night:
