OILERS' ICON JOEY MOSS PASSES AWAY

For die hard fans of the Edmonton Oilers, he likely needs very little in the way of an introduction. Edmonton Oilers' icon Joey Moss, who became the team's locker room attendant in 1984 on the recommendation of "The Great One" Wayne Gretzky, has died at the age of 57.

Gretzky had been dating Moss's sister when the two first met. No.99 was just 20-years-old at the time. Since then, Moss had been a beloved member of the Oilers and a fixture at games. His enthusiastic participation in the Canadian national anthem is well known. Moss was also an iconic presence with the CFL's Edmonton Eskimos and had been with a team since 1986.

In 2003, he was presented the NHL Alumni Association’s “Seventh Man Award,” which goes to NHL members “whose behind-the-scene efforts make a difference in the lives of others.” In 2015, Moss was inducted to the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame to honour his contributions and dedication made to both the Oilers and Edmonton’s CFL club.

In addition to his contribution to the sporting world, The Joey Moss Literacy Centre For Excellence was launched in 2019. Our sincere condolences to all family, friends and fans of Joey Moss.
