OVECHKIN MAKES STATEMENT AFTER BEING PLACED IN COVID PROTOCOL AND HIS TEAM FINED

Washington Capitals star player Alexander Ovechkin has released a public statement after he and three other members of team were placed in COVID-19 protocol. The Capitals have also been fined $100,000.

"I regret my choice to spend time together with my teammates in our hotel room and away from the locker room areas. I will learn from this experience," said Ovechkin.

Besides the Russian sniper, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Dmitry Orlov, and Ilya Samsonov are also on the NHL's COVID Protocol list and are out for an unknown amount of time. The NHL stated the team's fine is for "social interactions among team members who were in close contact and who were not wearing face coverings."

The Washington Capitals have also released a statement of their own.

The league is taking the COVID-19 issue seriously as it has little time to make up for postponed games throughout the regular season. At least three Carolina Hurricanes games are being rescheduled, while Dallas and Florida had games pushed back before the season even got under due to the Corona virus.
