PAIR OF ROOKIES MAKE SABRES OPENING NIGHT ROSTER

The Buffalo Sabres are about to enter a new era. They've brought back their famous royal blue uniforms fans have been asking for, and they signed UFA forward Taylor Hall in the off-season. It also appears that two rookies are about to make the jump to the National Hockey League.

According to CapFriendly, forwards Dylan Cozens and Jack Quinn have made the Sabres' opening night, 23-man roster. While the two youngsters have made the team, one key player was left off the roster, and is headed to the Taxi Squad.

Casey Mittelstadt has been placed on the Taxi Squad to start the year. He will be joined by forward Rasmus Asplund, defencemen William Borgen, Brandon Davidson, and goaltender Jonas Johansson.

Cozens, 19, was drafted in the first round, seventh overall by the Sabres in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He's spent the last three seasons in the WHL with the Lethbridge Hurricanes. In 179 regular season games, he had 223 points (95 G, 128 A), 88 penalty minutes, and was a +49. In 35 playoff games, Cozens tallied 29 points (14 G, 15 A), 16 penalty minutes, and was a +2.

Cozens played for Canada at the World Juniors in 2020 and 2021 (with Jack Quinn). In the 2020 tournament, he had 9 points (2 G, 7 A), 4 penalty minutes, and was a +6 in 7 games, as Canada beat Russia to win Gold. In the 2021 tournament he had 16 points (8 G, 8 A), 6 penalty minutes, and was a +11 in 7 games, as Canada lost to the United States in the Gold Medal Game.

Quinn, 19, was drafted in the first round, tenth overall by the Sabres in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. He's been playing for the Ottawa 67s in the Ontario Hockey League for the past two seasons. In 131 regular season games, he had 122 points (64 G, 58 A), 55 penalty minutes, and was a +53. In 20 playoff games, he had 7 points (3 G, 4 A), 0 penalty minutes, and was a -1.

As mentioned, Quinn played for Canada at the 2021 World Juniors. In 7 games, he had 5 points (1 G, 4 A), 0 penalty minutes, and was a +10.
