PATRIK LAINE COULD BE OUT 'LONG-TERM' WITH INJURY

It's not the news Jets fans were hoping for. On Friday, the Winnipeg Jets announced that they have placed forward Patrik Laine on injured reserve with an upper-body injury.

Laine has missed the past three games, and has only suited up in one game for the Jets this season. In that game, Laine had 2 goals (including the OT winner), and 1 assist.

The Winnipeg Jets drafted Laine in the first round, second overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. The Tampere, Finland native has put up 250 points (140 G, 110 A), 118 penalty minutes, and is a +/-0 in 306 regular season games. In 24 career playoff games, he's tallied 16 points (8 G, 8 A), 4 penalty minutes, and is a +3.

Additionally, the Jets announced that forward Nate Thompson would be joining Laine on injured reserve. Thompson suffered a lower-body injury in Thursday's win over the Ottawa Senators. The 36-year-old only logged 3:10 of ice-time before leaving the game.

Defenceman Dylan DeMelo will return for the Jets, and make his season debut on Saturday. DeMelo missed the start of the season to be with his wife and their newborn baby.

Winnipeg will face Ottawa on Saturday for the third time this week, with puck drop set for 10pm ET.
