POTENTIAL REGULAR SEASON ALL-CANADIAN DIVISION COULD CARRY INTO THE 2021 STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS
Per TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, the potential all-Canadian division for the 2020-21 season, which has been considered a big possibility for the last month, may also carry into the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
This division has been discussed by league commissioner Gary Bettman, as it would allow for the league to not have to worry about players and teams trying to cross the Canada-USA border, as it is currently closed to non-essential travel. LeBrun mentions that on top of this regular season division, this could carry into the opening two rounds of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, as well.
This would be a dream come true for Canadian hockey fans, as their favorite team would have rivalry games almost every night as well as one or two potential best-of-seven series. Of course, there is still a long way to go given that the NHL and NHLPA have yet to agree on many different issues leading up to the season. As a result, there is no start date yet for the 2020-21 campaign, but this is an extremely exciting tidbit nonetheless.
