SEAN COUTURIER INJURED IN FRIDAY NIGHT'S WIN OVER PITTSBURGH (W/ VIDEO)

It was all smiles for the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday night as they picked up their second win of the season against the Pittsburgh Penguins to remain atop the MassMutual East Division. But early in the game, the Flyers lost a key piece of their roster, Sean Couturier, to a shoulder injury.

The play happened about a minute and forty seconds into the first period, as Couturier was hit by Penguins forward Jared McCann along the boards near the Flyers bench. Couturier was out for the remainder of the game, and will have an MRI according to Head Coach Alain Vigneault.

Couturier, 28, was drafted in the first round, 8th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. In 649 regular season games, he's tallied 403 points (156 G, 247 A), 255 penalty minutes, and is a +93. In 39 career playoff games, he has 22 points (10 G, 12 A), 26 penalty minutes, and is a +1.

For his efforts during the 2019-20 season, Couturier was awarded the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the league's best defensive forward.
