SENATORS RE-SIGN CHRIS TIERNEY

According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, the Senators have re-signed forward Chris Tierney to a two-year contract worth $7 million ($3.5 million AAV). He will make $2.8 million in the first year of the contract, and $4.2 million in the second year. Tierney was set to go to arbitration on November 8th.

Tierney, 26, was drafted in the second round, 55th overall by the San Jose Sharks in the 2012 NHL entry draft. He was traded from San Jose to Ottawa in a deal that saw Erik Karlsson go to the Sharks.

In 426 regular season games, Tierney has 189 points (61 G, 128 A), 86 penalty minutes, and is a -41. In 40 career playoff games, he has 12 points (5 G, 7 A), 8 penalty minutes, and is a +6. Tierney was a member of the Sharks team in 2015-16 that made it to the Stanley Cup Final before losing to the Pittsburgh Penguins in six games.

The Keswick, Ontario native had a very successful junior career playing for the London Knights in the OHL. He won two OHL championships, and played in three Memorial Cups. Tierney was named captain of the Knights for the 2013-14 season. In 247 career OHL games, he put up 191 points (72 G, 119 A), 56 penalty minutes and was a +65.
