STAMKOS SKATES WITH LIGHTNING; NOT CLOSE TO RETURN

Steven Stamkos skated with the team on Monday, but is still not ready to play in games yet, according to head coach Jon Cooper.

Stamkos was injured during workouts prior to the playoffs and has not played in the 2020 playoffs. He hasn't played a game since March 2nd, due to undergoing a core shoulder surgery. The surgery has a six to eight week recovery which went through the pause.

“When you’re not able to play, you’ve got to shine in other areas, and he’s definitely helping in the leadership department,” said Cooper. “He’s been skating on and off, he’s on a rehab regime. And so a lot of days he’s either skating by himself or, if we’ve got optionals or we have a few guys skating he’ll join them."

Depending on how the eastern conference finals go will determine if Stamkos plays during the 2020 playoffs. The Lightning are one win away from heading to the Stanley Cup finals.

He was second in points on the Lightning for the 2019-20 season with 29 goals and 37 assists for 66 points in 57 games prior to the pause.

Game 5 of the eastern conference finals is Tuesday night, with the Tampa Bay Lightning having a 3-1 series lead over the New York Islanders.
