STARS AVOID SCARE; BLACKHAWKS PLACE FORWARD ON WAIVERS

It was a nail-biting 24 hours for Dallas Stars fans after the team announced that they placed defenceman Julius Honka on waivers. Those fans can now breathe a sigh of relief as Honka cleared waivers, according to Pierre LeBrun of TSN.

Honka, 25, was drafted by the Stars in the first round, 14th overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. In 87 regular season games he's tallied 13 points (2 G, 11 A), 28 penalty minutes, and is a -7.

Following the 2018-19 season, Honka was an RFA and chose not to sign with Dallas, opting to return to Finland and play for JYP during the 2019-20 season. He put up 15 points (4 G, 11 A), 16 penalty minutes, and was a +9 in 46 games before Liiga shutdown due to COVID-19.

Internationally, Honka has represented Finland on several occasions, most recently at the 2018 IIHF World Hockey Championships. In 8 games, he had 1 point (1 A), 0 penalty minutes, and was a +2 as Finland finished fifth after losing to Switzerland in the quarterfinals.

In other related news, the Chicago Blackhawks placed forward Brandon Pirri on waivers.

Pirri, 29, was drafted in the 2nd round, 59th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He's spent parts of 11 seasons in the NHL with Chicago (two separate stints), the Florida Panthers, Anaheim Ducks, New York Rangers, and Vegas Golden Knights.

In 276 regular season games, Pirri has tallied 121 points 72 G, 49 A), 91 penalty minutes, and is a +5.
