SUSPENSION AND FINE FOR ANTON RÖDIN AFTER A CROSSCHECK TO THE HEAD(W/VIDEO)

The Swedish Hockey League (SHL) made it clear last season it would be coming down hard on hits to the head, and the league is sticking to that stance. Anton Rödin, the captain of Brynäs IF has been suspended for four games and will have to pay a fine equal to $3500 USD after crosschecking HV71 player Emil Andrae just over five minutes into the third period in a game Thursday. You can check out the hit here:

The referees on the ice completely missed the play and there was no call. The SHL's Disciplinary Board made the ruling on the suspension and fine following the game saying "it is a question of a conscious and careless cross-check from behind that hits the opponent's head, the opponent is in a defenseless position and there's a high risk of injury."

Rödin is a former draft pick of the Vancouver Canucks but managed just three NHL games, all in the 2016-17 season.

As we reported here, SHL player and LA Kings prospect Lias Andersson was recently suspended for five games and fined more than $9000 USD for a hit to the head of Jonas Berglund. Andersson's rights were held by the New York Rangers at the time.
