TEAM CANADA MAY HAVE SUPERSTAR FORWARD FOR UPCOMING WORLD JUNIORS

TSN’s Mark Masters tweeted out Thursday afternoon that Hockey Canada Sr vice-president Scott Salmond believes the team could have 2020 first overall pick Alexis Lafreniere on their team for the 2021 World Juniors.

Salmond reportedly said that despite the current quarantine, conversations are still ongoing when it comes to Lafreniere’s status for the tournament, and it is reportedly “not out of the question” that he suits up for Team Canada.

It goes without saying, but this would be huge news for Team Canada as Lafreniere would undoubtedly be the best player in the tournament, giving Canada a great shot at repeating as champions. The 19 years old forward has already played twice in the tournament. While he didn’t do much damage in 2019 with just one goal, he proved just how good he is at the 2020 tournament, registering four goals and six assists in just five games.

The World Juniors are set to begin on December 25, with Red Deer and Edmonton Alberta as the host cities. Unfortunately, fans will not be allowed to attend the games, but there will be without a doubt be many at home tuning into all the games, especially if Lafreniere does indeed play. In 52 games during the 2019-20 season in the QMJHL, he had 35 goals and 112 points.
