TOP PROSPECT FOR 2021 DRAFT LOANED FROM OHL TO SWEDEN

A top 2021 NHL draft prospect appears to be heading to Sweden on a loan. The Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League will be loaning defenceman Brandt Clarke to Vasby IK who play in the Swedish second division, the HockeyAllsvenskan. Clarke will be joining Edmonton Oilers prospect Raphael Lavoie, who was loaned to Vasby IK back in September.

Clarke, was drafted in the first round, fourth overall by the Barrie Colts in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection Draft. In 57 games during the 2019-20 season, he had 38 points (6 G, 32 A), 38 penalty minutes, and was a -6. Following the season, which was ended early due to COVID-19, Clarke was named to the OHL first all-rookie team. He also led the OHL in assists by a rookie during the season.

Internationally, Clarke has represented Canada once, at the 2018 World U-17 Hockey Challenge, where he played for Team Canada Black. In 5 games, he tallied 6 points (1 G, 5 A), and 2 penalty minutes, as Team Canada Black finished 8th following a 8-4 loss to Finland in the seventh place game.

Last month, Clarke was given an "A" rating by NHL Central Scouting in their preliminary players to watch list. An "A" rating is given to a player who is likely to go in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft. Clarke is projected by many to be a top-3 pick in 2021, and could possibly even challenge Karpat's Aatu Raty for first overall.
