TWO NOTABLE NHLERS PLACED ON WAIVERS

Per Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, both forward Tyler Ennis (EDM) and defenceman Greg Pateryn (COL) have been placed on waivers this morning.

Ennis, 31, was originally acquired by the Edmonton Oilers in a trade with the Ottawa Senators at the 2020 NHL trade deadline. He impressed during his short stint with his new team, posting four points in nine games along with two points in three playoff contests. General manager Ken Holland was clearly impressed with him, as he re-signed him to a one-year deal this offseason despite suffering a broken leg during the 2020 playoffs against the Chicago Blackhawks. It appears the injury may be having a lingering effect on the veteran who has played 617 career games, as he has been a non-factor early on this season, failing to register a point in four contests.

Pateryn, 30, was recently acquired by the Colorado Avalanche in a trade with the Minnesota Wild that saw defenceman Ian Cole going the other way. Most saw this trade as general manager Joe Sakic opening a roster spot for their young prospect in Bowen Byram, and with this transaction that has been confirmed. Assuming he clears, Pateryn will likely be put on the team's taxi squad and be a depth option if the Avs blueline suffers any injuries.
