TYLER BERTUZZI HEADED TO ARBITRATION WITH DETROIT

Per TSN’s Elliotte Friedman, there is an arbitration filing for Detroit Red Wings forward Tyler Bertuzzi. Friedman is reporting Bertuzzi is asking for $4.25 million per season, while the Red Wings are looking to give him $3.15 million.

Bertuzzi, 25, has been one of the Red Wings' best offensive producers the past two seasons. His 21 goals led his team this year, while his 48 points trailed only Dylan Larkin. He had almost identical numbers during the 2018-19 season with 21 goals and 47 points. While Detroit has had some pretty bad teams the last few seasons, Bertuzzi is becoming a well-known player around the NHL for both his skill as well as his ability to get under opponents’ skill. On top of that, he is also a physical player who doesn’t shy away from dropping the gloves.

Bertuzzi is the nephew of the both highly skilled and highly controversial Todd Bertuzzi. While he isn’t as good of a player, he plays a very similar style of game. In 199 regular season games, he has posted 49 goals and 70 assists. Normally in arbitration, the player comes in with a very high and unreasonable ask, but in this case it wouldn’t be surprising to see Bertuzzi get the amount he is asking for here.
