TYLER JOHNSON AMONG 100+ PLAYERS PUT ON WAIVERS MONDAY

Teams across the National Hockey League placed a total of 139 players on waivers on Monday, one of the busiest days in NHL history.

Among the 139 names, there were plenty of notable players including: Tyler Johnson (TBL), Corey Perry (MTL), Loui Eriksson (VAN), Matthew Perreault (WPG), Luca Sbisa (WPG), Jujhar Khaira (EDM), Luke Schenn (TBL), and Andrew Ladd (NYI).

With teams getting their rosters prepared for the opening of the 2020-21 season, the newly-formed taxi squad comes in play. Any player that gets put on the taxi squad must clear waivers first. So, taxi squads are likely the reason why we've seen a ton of players on waivers over the last several days.

All 31 teams must have their rosters finalized by tomorrow (January 12th) at 5pm ET. The NHL season kicks off on Wednesday with the first game seeing the Philadelphia Flyers take on their cross-state rivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins at 5:30pm ET.
