Jakub Lauko collapses on the ice in the middle of the game

Jakub Lauko was the Boston Bruins' third round (77th overall) pick of the 2018 NHL entry draft. After getting familiar with North American hockey last season in the QMJHL with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, the Czech started this season in the AHL with the Providence Bruins. His rookie season in professional hockey took a frightening turn Saturday night at the Dunkin Donuts Center.


The Providence Bruins player hit Utica Comets forward Justin Bailey before falling on the ice. Lauko completely lost control of his body a few seconds after the hit. It was as if his body had just shut down on him. He fell on the ice, motionless. The game continued for a few seconds before the referees on the ice finally realized that something was wrong.

The Bruins' medical staff rushed to the ice to tend to Lauko, eventually escorting him off of the ice on a stretcher. Lauko would, however, indicate to the players and the crowd that he was doing okay by providing them with a thumbs-up on his way out.

A scary incident, indeed.
