More details on Montgomery's firing from Dallas; not player related

10 décembre 2019
The Dallas Stars are still being really vague on exactly what Jim Montgomery did that led to his immediate dismissal from the team Tuesday. However, some new details were brought to light during a news conference with general manager Jim Nill.

Nill told reporters there was a "material act of unprofessionalism contrary to the values and standards held by the Dallas Stars organization" that led to the firing of former head coach Jim Montgomery. It had been brought to his attention over the weekend. Nill added the incident has no connection to past or present players and isn't connected to other employees of the Dallas Stars organization. He also said he absolutely could not discuss the incident publicly "out of respect for everyone involved."

"Unfortunately Jim (Montgomery) was my hire," said Nill. "But it's important to do the right thing and we had to do the right thing in this situation."

All we're left with at this point is speculation on what Montgomery could have done that was so bad. According to Darren Dreger of TSN, the “unprofessional conduct” took place while Montgomery was employed by the Stars. He was hired by Dallas in May, 2018. However, given that it doesn't involve past or current players or "other employees" of the team, one is left wondering if it had anything to do with his job as head coach of the Stars at all. Nill did say there is no criminal investigation underway involving Montgomery. We may not know anything else unless Montgomery himself decides to address it in the media.

Rick Bowness, who has served as Assistant Coach since June 22, 2018, is the interim head coach of the Stars while a replacement is found.
