Jaromir Jagr joins Gordie Howe on a very exclusive list

Mike Armenti   ·   12 janvier 2020
There's no question that 47-year-old Jaromir Jagr has defied the odds throughout his professional hockey career. On Sunday, the greatest Czech player to ever play the game is set to reach yet another unbelievable milestone.

How many Art-Ross trophies, awarded to the best scorer, has Bernard Geoffrion won throughout his NHL career?

When Jagr hits the ice in the Czech Extraliga on Sunday, he will become just the second player in history to have a pro hockey career that has stretched through five different decades.

With this incredible milestone, Jagr joins the great Gordie Howe on a very exclusive list as they are the only two players to have ever accomplished this unbelievable feat. If there ever was a player who deserved to be on this list alongside "Mr. Hockey", Jagr is that player.

The age-less wonder, Jagr, began his pro hockey career in his hometown of Kladno during the 1988-89 season. He played just two seasons at home before being drafted in the first round (5th overall) in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Jagr went on to win 2 back-to-back Stanley Cups with the Penguins in 1991 and 1992. He played 1733 NHL games, good for 3rd on the all-time list. The veteran forward also sits 2nd in career points in the NHL with 1921, trailing only "The Great One", Wayne Gretzky, and 3rd overall in career goals in the NHL with 766.

On top of his two Stanley Cup championships, Jagr amassed 10 individual accolades over the span of his NHL career, including five Art Ross Trophies, three Ted Lindsay Awards, a Hart Memorial Trophy and a Bill Masterson Memorial Award.

What an incredible accomplishment by a truly remarkable player. Congrats to, not only the greatest Czech player ever, but one of the greatest players of all time, period.
