Kane closes in on 1000 points

13 janvier 2020
Since entering the league during the 2007/08 season, Patrick Kane has done nothing but impress. The former first overall pick has done it all. A Calder Trophy, an Art Ross, a Hart, and a Ted Lindsay are just some of the many prestigious awards he has won. Even better are his three Stanley Cups, as well as a Conn Smythe for his outstanding play during the 2013 playoffs. He has already put up a great case that he may just be the greatest American hockey player of all time.

Now, Kane finds himself on the cusp of another great achievement. He is just five points away from 1000 in his career. Even more outstanding is that he has played just 949 games. The American-born sniper has been a model of consistency throughout his entire career, never putting up less than 55 points in a season, and that came in a lockout shortened season that saw Kane play just 47 games.

Although the Blackhawks have seen themselves go from a dynasty to a non-playoff team over the past few years, Kane has still continued to produce as one of the best players in the entire NHL. Just last season, he recorded a personal best 110-point season, his second time cracking the 100-point barrier. This season it looks like he could do it yet again, has he is currently sitting with 57 points in just 46 games. Needless to say, the five points he needs to record to hit 1000 should not take him very long.

When he does record his 1000th point, Kane will join a list with some very elite players. Pat Lafontaine, Brian Leetch, Doug Weight, Joe Mullen, Keith Tkachuk , Jeremy Roenick, Phil Housley, Mike Modano, and Brett Hull are the only nine American-born players who have achieved this prestigious milestone. Hull leads the way with 1391.

Although it is tough to imagine him catching Hull, he is still just 31 years old and likely still has some more big seasons ahead. Tkachuk currently sits fifth on the all-time list with 1065, so barring injury it looks like Kane could easily find himself sliding into top five all time as early as next season.

For now, however, Kane will just be focused on hitting 1000. He will have a chance to inch closer towards it with back to back games on Tuesday versus the Ottawa Senators, and Wednesday against the Montreal Canadiens.
