Oilers assign Matt Benning to Bakersfield on a conditioning loan

The Edmonton Oilers have assigned defenceman Matt Benning to the Bakersfield Condors on a conditioning loan.

Benning's last game was against the Vancouver Canucks on Dec. 1, the Oilers won the game 3-2, but they lost Benning after he was hit in the head with a puck, giving him his second concussion in 12 days.

Benning will get to play four games with the Condors, as the Oilers are heading into their bye week and All-Star break.

Following the break, Benning will return to the Oilers who are in a tight battle for first in the Pacific Division. Edmonton, Vegas, Arizona, and Calgary are currently all tied for second in the division with 57 points, while Vancouver is barely holding onto the division lead with points.



Benning has five assists in 24 games with the Oilers this season, and he has 14 goals and 58 points in 229 career NHL games.
