Sonny Milano and A.J. Greer complete community service for summer's indiscretions

Mike Olivson   ·   22 janvier 2020
Back in July, Columbus Blue Jackets forward Sonny Milano and forward A.J. Greer, who is currently playing for the Colorado Eagles, the Avalanche's AHL affiliate, were arrested in New York City on a charge of misdemeanor assault.

What team did Jonathan Marchessault play on during his junior years?
Shawinigan Cataractes
Baie-Comeau Drakkar
Foreurs de Val-D'Or
Charlottetown Islanders
Quebec Remparts
Drummondville Voltigeurs

Two versions of the story came out back then. In one, the victim, a friend of Milano's roommate at his West Village apartment in New York, had promised the two players a deal for an evening of table service at the swank 1 Oak club in Chelsea. Once the group had returned to the apartment, the man attempted to charge the hockey players additional money with the squabble escalating into a fight. According to Milano's father however, the money was not the issue and the alleged victim, identified by some sources as Stephen Vaneyck, simply got too rowdy in the apartment.

Milano and Greer eventually struck a deal with the NYC District Attorney to pay the man's medical bills (though he had refused medical attention at the scene) and serve five days of community service, which they recently completed.

The two 23-year-old prospects have had different roads to the highest level of pro hockey. The Massapequa, NY-born Milano was a first round pick of the Jackets in 2014 and has split time between the big club and the AHL since the 2015-16 season. In 107 total NHL games over that span, he has recorded 20 goals and 20 assists. Meanwhile, Greer, a 2015 second round pick by the Avs, has played only 37 NHL games, with a total of one goal, five assists, and 47 PIMs. A self-described enforcer, Greer racked up 231 PIMs in 181 AHL contests.
