Marc Methot's comeback attempt may be over

Tim Tucker   ·   23 janvier 2020
It's been just over a year since defenseman Marc Methot underwent season ending knee surgery. Before that, he had played just nine games with the Dallas Stars last season before having to get a cartilage defect in his knee repaired. Despite hoping to make an NHL comeback, it appears as though Methot's professional career may be over.

While Methot hasn't made anything official yet, he appeared on TSN 1200 Radio and admitted his career is likely done. The surgery was very serious, requiring a chunk of bone under the knee cap where the cartilage is to be removed and replaced by a donor bone.

Methot, 34, is a veteran of 624 NHL regular season games with Columbus, Ottawa and Dallas. He had been taken by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 expansion draft but was traded before he ever played a game for the team. He's a stay-at-home defenseman who won't put up big points, but is known for his veteran leadership qualities and chippy style of play.

Methot stated back in September that he was skating regularly, but alone. He also stated he was hoping to make a comeback sometime this season. He became a free agent in July of 2019.
