San Jose Sharks owner is confident that the team will be able to get back on track despite struggles

Josh Vold   ·   23 janvier 2020
For years, the San Jose Sharks were one of the most dominant teams in the league and were perennial Stanley Cup contenders. However, that's not the case this season, they've sat at the bottom of the standings for nearly the whole year. On Dec. 11 they fired head coach Peter DeBoer in hopes of salvaging what was left of their season, but they have been unable to turn things around and currently sit 13th in the Western Conference with 46 points (21-25-4). The Sharks sit 11 points back of a playoff spot and it looks like they will be missing the post-season for the first time since the 2014-15 season.

Despite the recent struggles, Sharks owner Hasso Plattner has no doubts that GM Doug Wilson will be able to get the team back on track.

Which player has accumulated the most points for the Hurricanes in 2015?
Elias Lindholm
Eric Staal
Jeff Skinner
Justin Faulk
Nathan Gerbe
Victor Rask

While announcing Jonathan Becher as the new President of Sharks Sports and Entertainment, Plattner gave the Sharks' GM a vote of confidence.

"While we are all very disappointed in the team's performance thus far this season, Doug has a long history of leading our team to success. The last time we failed to meet our winning standards in the 2014-15 season, we were able to quickly rebound and re-establish a winning culture for the next several years. I am supportive of Doug's plan to get our team back on track."

Even though the Sharks are likely to be rewarded a lottery pick this season, they will not have a first-round selection in the upcoming draft. Their 2020 first-round selection was traded to the Ottawa Senators in the trade that brought Erik Karlsson to San Jose.
