Further evidence Kreider's days with the Rangers are numbered

Chris Kreider has been listed as the top piece of trade bait in the NHL this season by several sports outlet. And, if we needed further evidence that Kreider and the New York Rangers will be parting ways after eight seasons, we now have it.

According to Kreider himself, there have been absolutely no talks at this point with his team about a possible contract extension. Despite that, he says all the trade rumours have not been getting to him.

“You might not believe it, but there’s no challenge,” Kreider said.

“I’m just worried about winning hockey games. Winning solves a lot of problems. It’s the old adage and probably a little bit cliché, but we’re taking it one day at a time, one game at a time and just trying to get better — and I think we are getting better. I think our group’s worlds better than we were at the beginning of the year.”

Kreider’s contract carries a $4.625-million cap hit but $4 million in actual salary this season. His deal includes a modified no-trade clause that allows him to nix a deal to 11 teams. He will become an unrestricted free agent on July first.

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Colorado Avalanche, Boston Bruins, St. Louis Blues and Pittsburgh Penguins are all among the clubs interested in Kreider should he be made available at the deadline, which is just over a month away. Given the fact that no negotiations on a contract extension have taken place, it looks like he will certainly be up for grabs and is likely to fetch a good return for the Rangers.
