It was announced on Wednesday that the Winnipeg Jets have signed head coach Paul Maurice to a multi-year contract extension. No terms on the contract were released by the team.

In seven seasons with the Jets, Maurice has a record of 264-183-53 and has helped the team to the playoffs three times, including a trip to the Western Conference Final in 2018.

Maurice made his NHL coaching debut in 1995 with the Hartford Whalers, and stayed with the franchise when it relocated to Carolina in 1997. He was eventually fired by the Hurricanes during the 2003-04 season.

After his time in Hartford/Carolina, Maurice spent three seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization. He was head coach of the Toronto Marlies for the 2005-06 season, and was promoted to head coach of the Maple Leafs the following season.

He was fired by the Maple Leafs after just two seasons, and was re-hired by the Hurricanes in 2008.

The Hurricanes were never able to find any real success under Maurice on his second stint with the team, and he was fired during the 2011-12 season.

After being dismissed by the Hurricanes, he accepted a job to become the new head coach for the Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the Kontinental Hockey League, but returned home after just one season.

In January 2014 he was hired by the Jets, and the rest is history.

With 724 career wins, Maurice is the seventh winningest coach of all-time, trailing only Scotty Bowman (1244), Joel Quenneville (920), Ken Hitchcock (8490, Barry Trotz (843), Al Arbour (782), and Lindy Ruff (736).
